Photos 6 & 7

Last week was Zac's birthday.  To celebrate we had family over for dinner.  I made Lasagna (which was amazing) and a chocolate fudge cake with peanut butter, butter-cream frosting.  YUM! is all I have to say. I will definitely be making that frosting again.  I wanted to get a few photos of the cake and since we had his dinner on a weeknight there was no possible way to get a daylight picture of the cake.  I struggled to get a picture that I liked and I chose to show you two versions.  The color version and a black and white conversion.  Next on my to-do list for photography is to understand white balance.  With the help of photoshop I was able to adjust the photo so that it looks similar to what it actually looked like, but I need to learn how to do this in camera as well.  Here are the photos from last week:

I struggled with ideas of what to take pictures of this week.  I finally settled on a new pair of earrings that I have recently fallen in love with.  Detail shots are some of my favorites so these were right up my alley.  I used our screened porch in our back yard to hang the earrings and some scrapbook paper to hang behind them.  Once again I am posting more than one photo because I could not choose just one:)

This first one was my favorite.

I have figured out how to use storyboards and I love them!!
That is all for now! If you have any idea suggestions for my weekly photos I would love to hear them. :)

Long weekend = Bedroom makeover!

I worked a whole two days last week and it felt wonderful!  Zac and I went up to Red Wing MN on Sunday with our friends Jay and Anne.  We went antique shopping, played at the casino and watched the superbowl.  It was an absolute blast I have not had that much fun in a long time. :)  Zac and I also ventured up to the cities on Thursday to visit Ikea and do some shopping at the Mall of America.  I am so lucky that I do not live closer to the Ikea store or our finances would be in a world of hurt.  I wanted to buy everything, Zac had to talk me out of a lot of things. :)

With our new purchases I was able to finish our bedroom makeover.  Zac and I both had our childhood dressers and not having a matching set was driving me nuts.  Being the frugal person I am I set out to find the perfect paint color and we now have a matching set.  We purchased side tables, some throws, and a duvet cover at Ikea.  Once I am able to find a mirror that I like and get some of our wedding pictures developed and up on the wall the room will be finished!  I am now loving our "new" bedroom so that is what inspired my photos for the week.  I would love to hear what you think!

I am a bad blogger= photos 2...3...and 4

So I have completely let my life get away from me! January has flown by and I have missed my "weekly" photo posts.  I have not cheated though!! the three photos I will be sharing all were taken in separate weeks so I am still maintaining my using my camera once a week goal!!  I have just had the winter blues lately and getting myself to get outside to take photos has been difficult.  It is completely depressing when you leave for work in the morning when it is dark outside and return home when it is dark as well.  It has been limiting my photo opportunities.  Needless to say I cannot wait until summer!  On to the pictures.
Photo 2
I took this photo in our back yard after a recent snowfall.  Fresh fallen snow on trees is so refreshing!

Photo 3
While not one of my best photos, it is different from what I usually take.  I was noticing that the moon was very pretty on my drive(s) home this week so I grabbed my camera, set my aperture as low as it would go and took a shot to see how taking pictures of the moon would turn out.  While I think I need PLENTY more practice at this I like the eeriness of the tree branches in this photo. I think I will be attempting more pictures at the moon when it is full again and possibly a bit warmer so I can spend a bit more time playing with my settings:)

Photo 4
Zac and I are very blessed to be our new nephew Warren's Godparents.  Warren's Baptism was last weekend so if course I had to take some photos:)  I loved the crosses on his tiny shoes and his Baptismal cloth had a neat texture to it so I grabbed those and his certificate and played around.  This is what I came up with.

and now I am all caught up! I have a fun idea for this week so I hope it turns out I'm going to attempt it tomorrow morning.  I am excited for the Superbowl tomorrow GO PACK!!:)
